Jaxtr seemed to have a lot going for it: 10M users. $20M in funding from leading investors such as August Capital, Lehman Brothers, Mayfield, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Founders Fund and an interesting consumer offering – make international calls cheaply and straight from their mobile phone.
The troubles seem to be that there were are a lot of other companies who saw the opportunity including Jajah, Jangle, Rebtel, Nonoh and others. Moreover, the system is run on audio ads which is an emerging market and clearly does not pay for a headcount of 50.
Now Jaxtr has been bought by Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia whose Sabse Technologies offers free conference calling.
